First Dental Visit Information
Your initial appointment will consist of a detailed examination with your doctor and will take approximately 50 minutes. It is a complete record taking and charting of your past dental history, a review of your medical history, oral cancer screening and a full-series of dental x-rays to see what is happening under your gums.
Once your exam and x-rays have been completed your doctor will review the findings with you in detail. You can also bring up any questions or concerns you wish to discuss with the doctor. Your diagnosis and treatment options will be given to you, as well as an estimate for all future work. If your treatment plan is extensive and requires some planning of appointments we will spend time developing the plan and will relay the information to you by phone within a few days of your initial appointment. We are always available by phone to discuss any questions you may have following your treatment plan discussion.
At your initial dental appointment, in order to make a full and proper diagnosis of treatment that you may need, we require a complete set of dental x-rays. These are invaluable in showing us what is happening below the gums and is extremely important to be able to give you a complete diagnosis of your oral health.
In order to minimize dental x-ray exposure, even though it is minimal, we prefer to have any past x-rays taken in the past 12 months sent to your office. We will ask you to sign a “release of x-rays form” so that we can contact your former dental office and have the x-rays forwarded to our office. If any additional films are necessary we can take them in our office.
